KYÔFU

Kyôfu is a 2010 Japanese horror film directed by Hiroshi Takahashi, and starring Yôko Chôsokabe, Mina Fujii and Momoko Hatano. Last installment in a series of six films produced by Takashige Ichise and release under the umbrella of J-Horror Theater. The series comprises Infection (2004), Premonition (2004), Reincarnation (2006), Retribution (2007), Kaidan (2007), and Kyôfu (2010).

One night, Dr. Hattori and her husband decide to watch a film that depicts a brain surgery experiment performed on some Manchurian, Russian and Japanese people. The tape, which they found in the basement of a hospital, seems very old and has a very low quality. Suddenly, a white light appears on the screen and when the two doctors look back, they see Miyuki and Kaori, their two young girls, staring at the light. Some years later, a grown-up Miyuki has disappear from the Tama Medical University Hospital and her sister Kaori starts seeking her. However, soon she discovers, that Miyuki and some young people have made a suicidal pact. Nonetheless, while trying to fulfill their pact, the group is submitted to a nightmarish experiment by Dr. Hattori and her team who are investigating a strange phenomenon that occurs in the human brain.

TAKUT: FACES OF FEAR

Takut: Faces of Fear is a 2008 Indonesian horror anthology. It comprises six different and unconnected stories directed by seven directors. The stories go from witchcraft and possession, to zombies.

Segment One: Show Unit

Directed by Rako Prijanto, and starring Marcella Zalianty, Lukman Sardi, and Donny Alamsyah.
During a party at his new apartment where he lives with his fiancee, Bayu listens to strange noises coming from the second floor. As he begins to check some places around the apartment, he decides to grab a knife for safety reasons. However, when he enters a room wielding the knife, he ends up stubbing his fiancee's young daughter. While trying to find a place to hide the body, Bayu discovers that someone has taken it and demands a ransom in order to keep the secret and give the corpse back.

Segment Two: Incarnated Naya

Directed by Riri Riza, and starring Dinna Olivia, Junior Liem, and Dewi Irawan.
Naya is a very modern and city-style girl, but she was born in a very traditional Javanese family. During a ritual secret ceremony, Naya decides to avoid staying with her elders and instead goes around looking for her cousin to seduce him. As the flirt goes about, the lights go out and Naya is left in the dark looking for her mom amidst horrible visions of mortality and strange imagery.

Segment Three: Peeper

Directed by Ray Nayoan, and starring Wiwid Gunawan, Epy Kusnandar, and Tiara.
Bambang, a man working in a theater company in the cleaning department, is used to looking at the actresses through a peeping hole in the wall. One day he is approached by one of his colleagues who tells him that one of the most beautiful performers enjoys being watched. Bambang decides to go take a look and discovers that the door of the woman's room is open. While in the room, he discovers some jars containing human body parts and he realizes the woman has strange plans for him, and everyone who dares peeping on her.

Segment Four: The List

Directed by Robby Ertanto, and starring Fauzi Baadila, Shanty, and Prisia Wulansari.
Sara, a very obsessed girl, decides to pay a shaman to perform strange voodoo-like witchcraft on her ex-boyfriend. The ritual includes eating cockroaches and a small scorpion entering the man's ear canal.
Segment Five: The Rescue
Directed by Raditya Sidharta, and starring Eva Celia, Ananda George, Tegar Satrya, Sogi Indra Dhuaja, and Reuben Elishama.
A strange virus has quickly spread around Jakarta, causing a strange mutation on people who now are wandering about looking for human flesh. Among the last survivors are Gadis and Anton who decide to star looking for a way to survive such horror.

Segment Six: Dara/Darah

Directed by The Mo Brothers (Kimo Stamboel and Timothy Tjahjanto), and starring Shareefa Daanish, Mike Muliadro, Dendy Subangil,and Ruli Lubis.
This segment is the short movie that preceded the full length Rumah Dara, released in 2010.
Dara is a chef at a very elegant steak house restaurant. However, the secret to the success of her very famous home-made beef is about to be discovered by Adjie, or so he thinks.

TA-KIEN

Ta-Kien is a 2003 Thai horror film directed by Chalerm Wongpim, and starring Sorapong Chatree, Nantawat 'Tor' Asirawat and Pipat Arphirakchonnakarn.

During an animal hunting, Wittaya and Lokrai have a scary encounter with Nang Ta-Kian, the guardian of the forest. Some time later, Tong Kam,  Lokrai's son falls in love with Vittaya's daughter Porn; however, Vittaya goes instead for Trai, a civil engineer who has come to the village to coordinate the construction of a dam. As soon as the dam is completed, the village is threatened with a flood and Wittaya is asked to clear every tree, including a big scary Ta-Kian tree. But soon after he starts his task, awful events begin to take place and everyone close to him seem to be in danger. Wittaya then decides to plant a tree stub in order to appease the wrath of Ta-Kian and thus break the spell. Nonetheless, more things are yet to come his way and the spirit has more to do before letting them continue in peace.

BIOTHERAPY

Biotherapy is a 1986 Japanese sci-fi|horror film directed by Akihiro Kashima, and starring Jun'ichi Haruta, Yumiko Ishikawa and Hirohisa Nakata.

In this film, a group of Japanese scientists are stalked by a creepy-looking alien who systematically kills all of the them. Only one young man and his girlfriend manage to survive and discover the intentions of the creature as well as the easiest way to get rid of it.

SENREI

Senrei (a.k.a. Baptism Of Blood) is a 1996 Japanese horror film directed by Kenichi Yoshihara, and starring Rie Imamura, Risa Akikawa and Mie Yoshida. The film is based on Kazuo Umezu's manga of the same name.

A pretty actress is forced into retirement due to an ugly disfiguring skin disease that attacks her mainly in the face. Crazed by desperation she sets up a sinister plan that consists on transplanting her own brain into her young daughter's. As soon as she realizes of her mother's strange plan, Sakura, tries to escape in vain. After undergoing a horrible operation, Sakura is no longer who she used to be, she is now her own mother who is ready to start a new life as a normal little school girl. In her new body, she seduces the piano teacher, and tries to inherit her mother's properties to escape abroad and begin a new life. Police detective Takamatsu who is suspicious of Matsuko's disappearance starts investigating and ultimately uncovers the uncanny true behind the newly reborn woman.  

DALAW

Dalaw (a.k.a. Visit) is a 2010 Filipino horror film directed by Dondon S. Santos, and starring Kris Aquino, Diether Ocampo and Gina Pareño.

Three years after her husband died, Stella decides to marry another man. Anton, a younger man, was her love even before she was forced to marry Danilo. But right after the wedding, she starts to experience strange visions of a dark figure. She soon realizes that her life is endanger  as well as the people around her. Everything that happens around her seems to point to her dead husband as the culprit in the events. As she starts to feel guilty about her late husband's death, Stella tries to save everyone in her family from the ghost's wrath. To her bad luck, she also begins to suspect her husband is cheating on her with another woman whom he apparently got pregnant. Along the way, a lot of secrets start to unveil and Stella is now unsure of whose haunting she is being victim of, and more important, why she is being haunted.

KADOKAWA: MYSTERY & HORROR TALES (Vol. 1)

Kadokawa Mystery & Horror Tales: Volume 1 is a 2005 Japanese horror short films anthology. This is the first in a series of three collections released by Kadokawa Films. Each collection contains three tales by three different directors.

* Mei Nichi [Death Anniversary] (directed by Akaishi Tomoyuki).

This first short stars Mizukami Asami.
The story follows family that moves into their new strange house. Soon after they move, the weakest member of the family, one of the two girls living there with their parents, proves to be very vulnerable to the spiritual forces inhabiting the house. Although mysterious signs slowly emerge, no one in the house realizes the real nature of the malevolence until its strange cycle of curse soon devours the entire family.

* Cruel Kidnapping (directed by Akaishi Tomoyuki).

The story tells about Kamijo, a father whose infant is suddenly kidnapped  and for whom a 3 million yen ransom is asked. At first, he is completely devastated because of his unsuccessful schemes; but, he soon embarks on a foolish and ultimately tragic plot which discards any common sense that is left on him.

* Desire to Kill (directed by Nakanishi Kenji).

All alone in her house, a mother comes face-to-face with a cold-blooded murderer. Determined to protect her only son, she makes a lot of desperate attempts to convince the man to leave them alone. However, the crook has some plans of his own.

RAMPO NOIR

Rampo Noir (a.k.a. Rampo Jigoku) is a 2005 Japanese fantasy|horror film directed by Akio Jissoji, Atsushi Kaneko, Hisayasu Sato, and Suguru Takeuchi. The film stars Tadanobu Asano, Yûko Daike and Chisako Hara. The film is compilation of four short stories by four Japanese directors. Each of the segments is an adaptation of stories written in the early twentieth century by Taro Hirai -better known as Rampo Edogawa.

Mars Canal (directed by Suguru Takeuchi).
Within absolute silence, a naked man wanders through a dark and depressing landscape recalling the excruciating details of his last encounter with his former lover. He finally collapses at the edge of a lake that descends, seemingly into the bowels of hell itself.
Mirror Hell (directed by Akio Jissoji).
A series of women are discovered with their faces burnt and skulls charred for no apparent reason, a young detective decide to take over the case and discovers that a unique hand mirror is always found in the scene.
Caterpillar (directed by Hisayasu Sato).
A war hero returns home with no limbs and only his eyesight remaining. His beautiful wife, tired of taking care of him, turns to torturing her crippled husband for amusement.
Crawling Bugs (directed by Atsushi Kaneko).
A sexy actress is returning home from a successful night on stage, until her chauffeur becomes obsessed with her and decides that she should come home with him.

SUICIDE MANUAL 2

Suicide Manual 2 is a 2003 Japanese drama|thriller film directed by Yûichi Onuma, and starring Nozomi Andô, Yûko Daike, and Katsuya Kobayashi. The film is a sequel (althought in name only) to the 2003 Suicide Manual; both films are based on Wataru Tsurumi's novel The Complete Manual of Suicide.

Around Tokyo, a series of suicide cases have kept the police busy for some days. The main fact linking the suicides, and the reason to believe is a series of planned suicides, is a mysterious DVD that has been found on the victims. When even a police officer's girlfriend falls into depression, she decides to join a cult that promises to help her get cured. In the meantime, the suicides continue and new DVDs appear to be passing around among youngsters who get them looking for the thrill of watching something weird and sick. But, it soon becomes apparent that the cult and the recurrent DVD are somehow connected.

PRAYER BEADS

Prayer Beads is a 2004 Japanese horror TV series directed by Masahiro Okano. The complete series comprises a total of 9 stories ranging from horror to fantasy and drama.

*First Bead: Prayer Beads (director: Masahiro Okano).
Miki, a very depressive woman, whose two miscarriages and the mysterious disappearance of her husband keep her very stressed out., receives the visit of friend Hiroko, who herself has become pregnant. Later is revealed that the women are experiencing bizarre hallucinations and there is a mysterious connection among them.
*Second Bead: Vending Machine Woman  (director: Shigehito Kawata).
A couple of youngsters decide to take a field trip on a remote mountain cabin. But since the very first moment they arrive, they learn it is a bad idea to leave the house after dark due to a local superstition. In need of water and refreshment, they head out into the night looking for a store. Soon, they find an old and seemingly abandoned vending machine with a few remaining cans of a certain beverage. Later, the couple realize that the energy drink is more addictive than any other, and it's due to really gruesome reasons.
*Third Bead: It's Me  (director: Naoki Kusumoto)
Yuki and his friend, a couple of yakuza wannabes,  decide to embark on a phone scam in which they target the elderly. The fraud consist on calling and saying "It's me", to which the victim suggests a name. With such name, they make up an emergency that requires the victim to receive money. The finish by stating that someone will collect the cash. However, things go awfully wrong when one of the victims seems to know one of the crooks.
*Fourth Bead: Real (director: Masahiro Okano).
After the strange, self-destructive behavior of one of his co-workers, and his increasing migraines, an otherwise aspiring surgeon finds his career on the edge of breakdown. Following the only way that seems clear to him, he decides to subject himself to back-alley psychedelics whose horrific visions he will soon understand.
*Fifth Bead: Mushroom Hunting (director: Masahiro Okano)Some friends at a chat-room decide to meet for the first time and go on a field-trip into the wild to collect edible mushrooms. After a long drive, they meet an mysterious man who warns them into going to a certain shack apparently inhabited by a witch. To their bad luck, the friends stumble upon the house where they decide to spend the night. Soon, they discover the severity of the mysterious warning.
*Sixth Bead: Eddie (director: Toshikatsu Kubo).When all of a sudden, a cute seal-like creature appears in the Edo River, the locals and the media decide to dub it Eddie. Soon after, people in the surroundings start to go missing to later appear headless. It looks as though little Ikuo, a local kid, is destined to be the only one suspecting there is something wrong about Eddie. 
*Seventh Bead: Echoes (director: Naoki Kusumoto).
After realizing that Yumika, a beautiful young girl, was violently murdered at the hands of a gangster, her grandparents decide to track the thug down an plot revenge. It looks like a rather difficult task, however these old folks have a weapon of uncanny and formidable skills.
*Eighth Bead: Cat's Paw (director: Masahiro Okano).
Young Shota's life is dismal indeed. His father is abusive, his parents fight endlessly, he's bullied at school; but one day, he stumbles upon a children's cartoon that promises special results. The cartoon's main character, a humorous cat-like samurai that goes by the name Nyan-chan, promises a cartoon character boy, also named Shota, to grant three wishes. It is not long until real-life Shota discovers that the cartoon overlaps his own life and that having his wishes granted can have strange results. 
*Ninth Bead: Apartment (director: Masahiro Okano)
In the final Bead, an abusive father and husband brings his family to a breaking point. This final story tries to tie up together all the prior tales as pieces in a puzzle.

WHITE HOUSE

White House is a 2010 Filipino horror film directed by Topel Lee, and starring Gabby Concepcion, Iza Calzado and Lovi Poe.

The film is about six young people who join as contestants in a new horror reality show. The winner will get a million pesos. The only condition is to survive for five days inside an abandoned creepy old mansion while dealing with some strange occurrences and ghastly appearances. As the night approaches, they soon realize that their lives are in great danger as it seems that most of what is happening is real.

MIDNIGHT FM

Midnight FM is a 2010 South Korean thriller directed by Sang Man Kim, and starring Kim Min-Kyu, Su-Ae and Ji-tae Yu.

Ko Sun-young, a very popular announcer and midnight DJ, decides to quit her job and leave to the USA. her plans include taking her ill daughter, Eun-soo, for a surgery. She begins her last day of work with the promise that it is going to be memorable, soe her sister has to babysits her nieces at Ko Sun-young's apartment. Right after she is on the air, Sun-young receives a call from Han Dong-soo who claims to be her fan. He informs her that he has just kidnapped her entire family and if she doesn't play the songs on his list or attempts to call the police, he will kill her family.

LUCKY SKY DIAMOND

Lucky Sky Diamond (a.k.a. Bloody Fragments On White Walls) is a 1990 Japanese gore horror film directed by Izô Hashimoto, and starring Naoko Amihama, Reiko Nakamura and Shirô Sano. The film is wrongly included in some Guinea Pig bootleg packages as entry number seven.

The film tells about a girl named Yoko who wakes up in a strange facility strapped to a bed. After being injected with unknown drugs, she is taken by a mysterious doctor and a nurse to an operating room to perform brain surgery on her.

AFTERSHOCK

Aftershock is a 2010 Chinese disaster|drama film directed by Xiaogang Feng, and starring Daoming Chen, Chen Li and Yi Lu. The film depicts the aftermath of the 1976 Tangshan earthquake which is believed to be the largest earthquake of the 20th century by death toll, approximately 240,000 people died. The epicenter of the earthquake was near Tangshan in Hebei, People's Republic of China, an industrial city with approximately one million inhabitants.

Da Qiang, his wife Yuan Ni and their twin children Fang Da and Fang Deng live a happy life in their native Tangshan. But on July 27, 1976, a devastating earthquake destroys the city. Da Qiang dies while trying to rescue their children from their apartment. Later, as the building collapses, Fang Da and Fang Deng get trapped among the debris. Their mother, Yuan Ni, is forced to decide whether her son or daughter should be saved. She reluctantly chooses Fang Da. Incapable of moving, her daughter Fang Deng overhears her mother's difficult decision, but miraculously survives. She is then adopted by Mr. Wang, a soldier, and his wife. Thirty-two years later, after another earthquake in mainland China, Wang Deng, now a married woman, travels to China and voluntarily joins the rescue team. There, she meets Fang Da and she leans the drama of her mother and brother all those years.

SILK

Silk is a 2006 Taiwanese horror film directed by Chao-Bin Su, and starring Chen Chang, Yôsuke Eguchi, and Kar Yan Lam.

In Taipei, a group of scientists lead by a Japanese scientist named Hashimoto, are using his invention called Menger Sponge to capture the spirit of a child in an old apartment building. The researchers are later joined by a specialist in reading lips, detective Tung, who comes to the team to try to understand the movements of the lips of the young boy's ghost. Hashimoto, on his side, is trying to discover why the energy of the ghost does not dissipate and leave this world; meanwhile, Tung gets more and more involved in discovering the identity and the dramatic story of the boy, why and how he died.
