SEANCE


Korei (a.k.a. Seance) is a 2000 Japanese thriller film directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, and starring Koji Yakusho.

Junco is a psychic housewife who possesses great clairvoyant powers, she has steadily built a reputation as a medium. As the police are desperately searching for a young girl who was kidnapped by a pervert, Junco is called upon to help find her. Ironically, the girl manages to escape her captor and finds refuge inside Katsuhiko's (Juncos's husband) equipment case while he is in the forest recording some sounds for his job. The next morning, Junco's psychic powers help her discover the missing girl in their own garage. This strange circumstance awakens an apparent hidden ambition in Junco to become a famous psychic.
As the movie progresses, Junco's plans go astray and the young girl meets an awry end. Junco's ambitious behavior turns her own abilities into a deadly boomerang, and both she and her husband Katsuhiko are haunted by the ghost of the girl.
