KUCHISAKE-ONNA

Kuchisake-Onna (a.k.a. Carved: A Slit-Mouthed Woman) is a 2007 Japanese horror film directed by Koji Shiraishi and starring Eriko Sato, and Haruhiko Katô.

In a small suburban town, rumors start to spread among children at a school about a disfigured woman wearing a surgical mask and holding a big pair of scissors. It is said that she is back to kidnap children and take them into her hideout where she cuts their faces from cheek to cheek. After some children start to disappear, two school teachers, Matsuzaki and Yamashita, decide to research about the legend and try to find the missing kids. It is later revealed that there is a strange connection between the slit-mouthed woman and Matsuzaki that might help the teacher both rescue the children and put and end to the curse of Kuchisake-Onna.

FENG SHUI

Feng Shui is a 2004 Filipino horror movie directed by Chito Roño and starring Kris Aquino.

After Joy (Kris Aquino) finds a Bagua mirror on a bus, she and her family become very lucky. Joy then becomes worried because together with the good luck, mysterious deaths begin to happen around her and close friends. Scared and desperate because of all the strange situations around her, Joy start looking for some answers and then it is revealed that everybody who looks into the Bagua's will die, and their death will be somehow related to their correspondent animal in the Chinese calendar which depends on what year the victim was born.
Joy then decides to consult an expert on Chinese folklore who tells her how to destroy the curse and possibly save some lives before the curse get to her and her family.

MUOI

Muoi: The Legend Of A Portrait is a 2007 horror film directed by Kim Tae-kyeong. The movie is a South Korean/Vietnamese co-production starring Jo An, Cha Ye-ryeong, and Anh Thu as Muoi.

Yun-hee (Jo An) is a South Korean writer but hasn't published a book in three years, but things seem to be getting better as she receives a call from an old friend, Seo-yeon (Cha Ye-ryeong), who has been living in Vietnam for quite some time. The call is about Seo-Yeon informing Yun-hee about a local Vietnamese folklore legend about a woman named Muoi and her haunted portrait.
Yun-hee then decides to travel to Vietnam to help her friend with her research; there she learns that over a hundred years ago Muoi was a beautiful woman who after posing for a local artist became his lover.
Now, it seems that some monks protect Muoi's painting and warn people about her ghost, which is said to haunt the village. The longer Yun-hee works with Seo-yeon in knowing about Muoi, the more she feels that the curse maybe haunting her; soon after, she begins to suspect that her friend, Seo-yeon, has a sinister secret and a strange connection to the story.

HANSEL AND GRETEL

Hansel And Gretel is a 2007 South Korean horror fantasy film directed by Lim Pil-Seong and starring Cheong Jeong-myeong, Eun Won-jae, Sim Eun-kyeong, and Jin Ji-hee.

Eun-soo (Cheong Jeong-myeong) crashes his car on a country road while talking on the phone with his girlfriend; soon after he manages to recover, he meets a young girl who offers to help him and leads him to her house in the middle of a deep thick forest. There Eun-soo is welcomed by the girl's parents and her two young siblings, they appear to be a portrait of a perfect family.
The morning after his arrival on the house, Eun-soo tries to get back to his car, but the forest seems infinite and after a while he is lead back to the house. Later on, Eun-soo will realize that he has been trapped in a children’s dark fairy-tale that appears to be their alternate reality; it is a world no other adult has managed to escape before.

13 BELOVED

13 Beloved (a.k.a. 13: Game of Death) is a 2006 Thai psychological thriller with black comedy elements directed by Chukiat Sakveerakul and starring Krissada Sukosol Clapp.

Chit (Krissada Sukosol Clapp) is having some serious problems with his job, his car, his debts are growing, and it seems that he has recently broke up with his girlfriend.
Soon after it seems that nothing could be worse, Chit receives a mysterious phone call on his cellphone inviting him to take part in a supposedly underground game that promises to help him solve all his financial problems if he manage to get to the end of the game. In order to succeed in its game and win the millionaire prize, Chit will have to accomplish thirteen tasks that are designed specifically for him and that would push him to the edge of sanity. The game starts out innocently enough to make Chit think that it is going to be very easy to win; however, it rapidly progresses into more and more life-or-death situations.

Chit's 13 tasks:

1. Kill a fly.
2. Swallow the fly.
3. Make three children cry.
4. Beat up a beggar and take his money.
5. Eat a plate of feces.
6. Give his mobile phone to a mentally unstable man at a bus stop and then take another mobile phone from a gang of youths on a bus.
7. Retrieve a dead body from a well.
8. Beat up ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend with a chair.
9. Find an old woman in a hospital and escort her from the building while evading police.
10. String up a wire clothesline across a highway, which eventually decapitates several motorcyclists.
11. Kill his former co-worker or her dog.
12. Slaughter cattle and find a key in their intestines.
13. Kill John Adams (a hooded man in a wheelchair).

HAZE

Haze is a 2005 Japanese thriller written, directed and starring Shinya Tsukamoto.

A man (Tsukamoto) wakes up in a tight dark place that looks like a tiny concrete room, where he can barely move. He seems to be suffering from amnesia and he doesn't know why he is there or how he got there. As he starts feeling his body, he realizes he has a stomach injury and he is slowly bleeding. He decides he has to get out of there and begins to explore around the narrow chambers of his concrete prison; he crawls around the labyrinth-like room, until he can finally arrive to a place that seems to stink of rotting corpses. There the man meets a woman who has just awaken in his same circumstances; both of them decide that they have to get out of there even if they can't recall where they came from. At some points, however, their little and blurry memories are so uncertain that they are not even sure whether or where they want to return. As their path seems to be leading nowhere, the man appears to be ready to give up but the woman keeps encoraging him and insists on going forward. While they crawl across the narrow chambers and between the walls, neither of them can even think of what sort of end to their journey they will have.

SICK NURSES

Sick Nurses is a 2007 Thai horror film written and directed by Piraphan Laoyont and Thodsapol Siriwiwat.

At a run-down Thai hospital, a doctor and seven of the nurses engage in selling corpses. However, it seems that there is a terrible rivalry among the nurses, and jealousy eventually causes Tawan, one of them, to start acting weird regarding her colleagues, so the others decide it is time to kill her.
At midnight, on the seventh day of Tawan's death, each of the remaining nurses as well as Dr. Taa, face what seems to be a vengeance from beyond.
All women in the movie seem to have their own little obsession and weakness, which is used by Tawan's ghost as she returns to kill each one of her former co-workers and take her revenge.

LOFT

Rofuto (a.k.a. Loft) is a 2005 Japanese horror film written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, and starring Miki Nakatani.

The movie revolves around Reiko Hatuna, a novel writer, who after becoming extremely stress with her forthcoming work, moves to a quiet country side house to finish up her new novel.
One night, as she is looking through her bedroom window, she realizes there is a man living in the building right across from hers. She finds out that the man is Makoto Yoshioka, an archaeologist researching ancient mummies, and has recently discovered a thousand year old mummy.
One day, Reiko finds out her room once belonged to a woman who disappeared not long ago. As the movie progresses Reiko discovers that there is a connection between the ghost that is haunting her and his new friend's profession.

SEANCE

Korei (a.k.a. Seance) is a 2000 Japanese thriller film directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, and starring Koji Yakusho.

Junco is a psychic housewife who possesses great clairvoyant powers, she has steadily built a reputation as a medium. As the police are desperately searching for a young girl who was kidnapped by a pervert, Junco is called upon to help find her. Ironically, the girl manages to escape her captor and finds refuge inside Katsuhiko's (Juncos's husband) equipment case while he is in the forest recording some sounds for his job. The next morning, Junco's psychic powers help her discover the missing girl in their own garage. This strange circumstance awakens an apparent hidden ambition in Junco to become a famous psychic.
As the movie progresses, Junco's plans go astray and the young girl meets an awry end. Junco's ambitious behavior turns her own abilities into a deadly boomerang, and both she and her husband Katsuhiko are haunted by the ghost of the girl.

CURE

Cure is a 1997 Japanese psychological thriller written and directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, the film stars Koji Yakusho.

After a series of gruesome murders start happening around Tokyo, detective Takabe (Koji Yakusho) and Sakuma, a psychologist, are called in to figure out the connection, but it seems that it is only an X shaped wound carved into the neck of each of the victims. However, in all cases, the apparent murderer is found close to their victims but they don't remember anything about the crime.
When detective Takabe's investigations seem to lead nowhere, a strange man is arrested near the scene of one of the latest murders; the man seems to suffer from amnesia and surely has a strange effect on everyone who tries to talk to him.
Detective Takabe starts a series of interrogations to find out the man's actual connection with the killings, but the detective will find himself a little too much involved in the case and with the suspects apparent mermerizing and psychological powers.

LOVE GHOST

Love Ghost (a.k.a. Lovesick Dead) is a 2001 Japanese horror film directed by Shibuya Kuzuyuki and starring Lisa Goto, Ryuhei Matsuda, Asumi Miwa, and Hitomi Miwa.

The movie starts with Midori (Lisa Goto) returning to her place of birth, which she grew up and stayed until she was seven years old. At her first day in school, she comes across an enigmatic boy who happens to be her old playmate. As Midori reconnects Ryusuke (Ryuhei Matsuda), some of the schoolgirls begin to talk about a mysterious boy in black who possesses the unique ability to predict the future and find out exactly what love has for people. Midori realizes the story has some sort of connection with a recurrent nightmare she has almost every night.
However, after some girls decide to summon upon the mysterious boy in black, they start to commit suicide, and act somewhat crazy in the classroom. Midori is then forced to confront the black dressed boy of her dreams as she tries to maintain her sanity in all the surrounding chaos of the town and specially the school.
At some point it will be unclear for Midori whether she is living in reality or just one of her recurrent bad dreams.

DEAD FRIEND

Ryeong: The Ghost (a.k.a. Dead Friend) is a 2004 South Korean horror film written and directed by Kim Tae-kyeong and starring Kim Ha-neul, Nam Sang-mi, Jeon Hye-bin "Bin", and Shin Yi.

Three friends are conducting a séance with a Bunshinsaba-like ouija board; they decide to call upon ghosts; meanwhile, one of the girl's sister, who is sleeping in the next room, wakes up screaming after having a nightmare.
The movie then turns to Ji-won (Kim Ha-neul), a college student who suffers from selective amnesia due to a near-dead experience. Her missing memory seems to suggest that she has a close connection with the Bunshinsaba playing girls.
As the movie progresses, Ji-won friends, who appear to be members of a high school clique, are beginning to die or end up in a madhouse. Ji-won then, starts to investigate the possible identity of the ghost that is also haunting her, and how it is supposedly linked to her forgotten past.

MAREBITO

Marebito is a 2004 Japanese horror movie directed by Takashi Shimizu, and starring Shinya Tsukamoto and Tomomi Miyashita.

Masuoka (Shinya Tsukamoto) is a cameraman who carries a camera wherever he goes. One day he becomes obsessed with the idea of fear and horror after seeing a frightened man shove a knife in his eye to commit suicide.
Trying to find the physical component of terror, Masuoka finds a mysterious tunnel that takes him to the underground. There Masuoka learns about a supposedly existing race of robots who terrify people both beneath the Earth and on the surface; on his way down, he finds a strange naked woman and decides to rescue her and take her with him to the surface.
Soon after, Masuoka discovers that F, as he called the girl, can survive only on blood. At the beginning, he is capable of taking care of her by providing her with animal carcasses, but later he begins to kill people to collect the necessary blood to feed her.
Later on, he will discover the real nature of his guest and his own reason to be obsessed with terror and fear.

DARK WATER

Dark Water is a 2002 Japanese horror film co-written and directed by Hideo Nakata, and starring Hitomi Kuroki.

Yoshimi Matsubara moves with her young daughter Ikuko to a weird looking and totally run-down apartment complex. Soon after she moves, she notices that the ceiling of the apartment is constantly dripping water and that there is a dark and active leak. Yoshimi later finds out that the upstairs apartment, that seems to be the source of the water leak, was formerly the home of a young girl named Mitsuko Kawai, who went missing some months ago, and her mother. Many incidents keep happening repetitively, becoming more strange, and even though Yoshimi told the landlord about it, they only change the wallpaper.
One night, after yet more strange things keep occurring, Yoshimi decides to go to the upper level and then to the roof of the building, there she discovers the truth about all the missing girl and the strange events in the building.

THE MACHINE GIRL

The Machine Girl is a 2008 Japanese action/gore film written and directed by Noboru Iguchi. The film stars Minase Yashiro as Ami, and Asami as Miki.

After her brother is killed by the son of a Yakuza leader, Ami, a young Japanese schoolgirl, decides to take revenge on the Yakuza members and all those who bullied her brother.
However, when she goes looking to avenge her brother, she finds herself captured and eventually losing her left arm. Nonetheless, Ami manages to survive and escape, and seeks shelter from two mechanics, who were the parents of her brother's best friend. This family take pity on her, eventually fitting her with a high-powered gatling gun. She then teams up with Miki, the chainsaw-wielding mother of her brother's murdered best friend and together they unleash a bloody, unstoppable carnage fest against the killers of their beloved ones.
