THE DESERTED INN
The Deserted Inn is a 2008 Hong Kong suspense film directed by Zhang Jing and starring Kenny Kwan, Kar-Ying Law, Mei-tian He, and Shan Xue. The film is based on a novel by Huang Cun.
Meng Fan a music composer is witnessing his career hitting rock bottom as he seems unable to come up with another hit after the success of his song Sorry, I Love You. Since he is determined to go somewhere else and find his inspiration, he decides to break up with his long time girlfriend, He Ying. One day, while surfing the internet searching for a place to go, he comes across an old town which picturesque landscape seems just right. Fan then decides to search for a local inn and finds one named “The Deserted Inn”. He thinks this is the place he wants to go to in order to take his mind off his current problems and seek for his long gone inspiration, and thus write the next hit song he needs. Upon checking into the inn, Fan begins to feel that there is something wrong and a series of strange events start to happen. He even hears singing every night and sometimes sees strange people wandering around in traditional Ming dynasty clothes on the streets narrow alleys. As his nightmares become more often, Fan feels he is being pushed to the verge of a nervous breakdown, but not before unveiling the hidden past of the innkeeper and the mysterious legend surrounding the village.
